Social Norms Campaign - Challengers utilizes this research-based program to address community-wide issues surrounding alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. Research conducted on social norms projects indicate that it is effective in reducing youth alcohol and tobacco use, as well as increasing positive and accurate perceptions and norms concerning alcohol use. Challengers' social norms approach uses a variety of methods to correct negative misconceptions and to identify, model, and promote healthy, protective behaviors. What If? This effort is geared toward parents of the middle school students in Oldham County. The campaign provides increased information to parents to help make it easier to have frank discussions with their children about the risks of substance use. The What If? initiative includes monthly mailings to all parents of middle school students, educational materials for distribution in each of the four middle schools, and a weekly parent email tip. The goal of the What If? campaign is increased parent/child communication with respect to substance use, thereby resulting in decreased substance use by youth in our community. Along with Challengers, the What If? campaign is being supported by the Oldham County Public Schools, the Oldham County Police Department, the LaGrange Police Department, The Oldham Era, Seven Counties Services, Research & Evaluation Specialists, Inc., Park Printing, and OldhamCounty.com |
